The MS-1000 motor is the proper replacement motor for the Hubbell MC-42 lift
chair motors.
Please view lift chair parts at this link on our website: http://www.liftchair.com/hand_controls_parts.htm
Go to Number 109 Hubbell Motor and view the various install guides. This motor
must be installed correctly.
This is how we install MS-1000 replacement motors for Hubbell motors into
lift chairs:
PUT THE CHAIR IN THE FULL RECLINED POSITION, AS FLAT AS IT WILL RECLINE, and tip
it over upside down on the carpet.
(Stretch it out so it is fully out flat in the fully reclined position)
Take your old motor out and save the clevis pins, spacers, and hair pins to use
over.
Plug in your new motor and run it down as short as it will retract. Then hand
tighten the stroke tube all the way down until it bottoms out
against the gear box cover. Then bring it back out 3 full turns. (Replacements
on some newer Hubbell motors, such as M-1835, will only
require you to bring the stroke tube out full turn prior to installation), ( I
usually stick one of the clevis pins back in so I can count 3 full
turns).
Then attach the motor base to the lift chair base. You will find that the stroke
tube will almost be lined up just right with the holes in the
bracket on the recline bar where you reattach it. (This is because you have the
chair stretched out as far reclined as it goes)
Then you hold the stroke tube so it does not turn and power it until it lines up
with the holes on the recline bar where you reattach the new
motor. (Be careful not to hurt your fingers, hold the tube firmly so the tube
extends as the screw turns.)
Then turn your chair over and run it all the way up carefully and make sure the
limit switch turns the motor all the way off automatically when
it is in the full lifted position.
Then run the chair carefully down to the full reclined position and make sure
the limit switch turns the motor all the way off automatically
when it is in the full reclined position.
DO NOT LET THE MOTOR KEEP RUNNING IN EITHER THE FULL UP OR FULL RECLINE POSITION
IF IT DOES NOT CUT OFF
AUTOMATICALLY.
IF IT TRIES TO KEEP RUNNING YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOU STARTED WITH IT IN FULL
RECLINE, MOTOR RETRACTED
FULLY, AND STROKE TUBE BROUGHT OUT 3 FULL TURNS. (Replacements on some newer
Hubbell motors, such as M-1835, will
only require you to bring the stroke tube out full turn prior to installation)
MAKE SURE THAT IN BOTH THE UP AND DOWN POSITION YOU DO NOT NOTICE EXCESSIVE
STRAIN ON THE MECHANISM
BEING PULLED TO TIGHT.
